Stupid random fact. If you rearrange the letters of Poseidon and Uranus you can get:
Rain douses porn.
Which is probably true. I wonder if knowing that would’ve changed how they played the game. And now with that deep thought absorbed, let’s get to the game.
Last season, Kate and I decided we really wanted to do something fun for team bonding, so we bought a Dark Phoenix inspired wolf shirt to give out to our MVP each game. If you won the shirt, you got to choose the following week’s MVP, but there was a catch. Before the next game, you were required to take a video of you doing something in the wolf shirt. It could be funny, epic, whatever. We purposefully left it open ended, hoping people would come up with some creative ideas. Naturally, people pushed the envelope, and it eventually evolved into what most might consider illegal activities. As captains, we did not encourage that, but we enjoyed the tradition and wanted to carry it on to Uranus this season. Here is a picture of the Dark Phoenix Wolf Shirt.
Although we continued the tradition this year, we gave more of a theme behind the shirt. Power of the wolf. Also, please try not to commit any major crimes. Here is the Uranus shirt!
We have had some amazing videos by Max, Maggie, and John thus far, but I have to say, Andrew’s video takes it to a whole new level. Describing it doesn’t do it justice, so I’m just going to have to share the video with you…
That is going to be tough to beat!
Oh yeah, we had a game tonight. It was a fun, hard fought game. Poseidon took an early 3-0 lead. We used the 2 point power and they countered by removing KJ from the field, as we suspected. It was a long point, but they eventually scored. We came back to bring it to 2-3. Then they go on a run. 6-3 Poseidon. This is where we found our groove and went on a 4-0 run. 7-6 Uranus. Poseidon fights back and takes half 8-7. Out of half, Poseidon went on a run. 11-7. We mounted another comeback to tie it at 11s. At this point, we ran out of steam. I started cramping, Adam started cramping, and Honey Badger started cramping. Poseidon finished off the game 15-11. We were low on both men and women tonight. Kate, Honey Badger, and KChu did a great job of playing savage the first half. Erin’s shoes literally broke right before the game started, so she went to Big 5 to buy a new pair. Not having Maggie and Andy was a big loss, but overall we played really well and came super close to pulling off the upset. I feel like we’ve improved tremendously the last two weeks, and even though our record doesn’t reflect it, we may surprise people come tournament time. Good game Poseidon.
Where was the Power of the Wolf for the 2-point play, the cramping and the shoes? The Wolf didn’t save any of those things. I’m not sure I’m sold on its true power yet, but I have to admit the video was pretty impressive. No spoilers.
Poseidon now appears to be in second place after Hades’ loss, but Hades beat Poseidon head-to-head so Hades remains in second place. But my annual note that the standings on-line are not completely accurate. The system doesn’t take into account head-to-head match-ups, but rest assured it will all be correct come tournament time.
And now, here’s Spike with the recap from the Poseidon side:
The defender of the deep this week is the Mahi Mahi!
I’ve been to Hawaii three times now. All for tournaments (although one was a tournament plus Alex and Eileen’s wedding) and have yet to order Mahi Mahi once. They look mean.
