RecapJoannaTo the tune of Party in the USA:

I hopped out my car as CCHS
With my bag and my cleats in tow
I was late but that’s ok
The team was ready to go

Jumped on the line, here I am for the second point
We got the first one, now we’re looking for defenders to appoint

This is all so crazy
That beer is making it look a little hazy

The pull is up and we’re on them in a flash
They work it up and get the score with a great pass
The teams aren’t rolling deep but the ones who are here have really got it going on, really got it going on, really got it going on!

So we put the disc up, the bodies are flying, very few discs are thrown away
Trading points like yeah, sprinting around like yeah
we put the disc up, the bodies are flying, you know half was ocho to seis, yeeeaaahhh
It’s a party on the field of play!
yeeeaaahhh
It’s a party on the field of play!

We break for half and regroup a little. We’ve really got a game here now
Animal grabs the next two points. It’s going to be a fight to take this team down.
Throw a hard zone defense, it’s definitely going to make them tense
After Party breaks it a few times, but not enough to change our minds
The discs are turning and we’re getting kinda tired.
Too much running and a bit of ire.
The teams aren’t rolling deep but the ones who are here have really got it going on, really got it going on, really got it going on!

So we throw our hands up, we’re playing our game, the force is always away
Trading points like yeah, making long cuts like yeah
we put the disc up, the bodies are flying, you know it’s tied at 11’s, yeeeaaahhh
It’s a party on the field of play!
yeeeaaahhh
It’s a party on the field of play!

The game is getting a bit tense, a bit tense, fouls are happening right and left, right and left
Someone stops the disc on a roll, on a roll, we get a point with a huck and give and go

So we put the disc up, the bodies are flying, very few discs are thrown away
Score is close like yeah, 14-12 like yeah
we put the disc up, the bodies are flying, you know our players are limping away, yeeeaaahhh
It’s a party on the field of play!
yeeeaaahhh
It’s a party on the field of play!

So we put the disc up, the bodies are flying, very few discs are thrown away
Ending the game like yeah, 15-12 like yeah
After Party takes it, despite low numbers, you know In N Out was ate, yeeeaaahhh
It’s a party on the field of play!
yeeeaaahhh
It’s a party on the field of play!

I’m jazzed.  I’m ready to go out dancing tonight.  And eat In N Out.

Here’s another recap from first timer Sam Kelley of After Party.  Well, first from Stephanie Hicks with the prologue:

NOTE TO READER: Nate and I could not make the game last night and our sadness was punctuated because I was going to pitch doing an epic joint-recap with Joanna… I guess it will have to wait until next year. But thankfully, After Party did great without us, pulling out a win despite our lowest turnout of the season. And Sam Kelley did us proud with this recap!!

RecapSamKProphets foretold of stormy Los Angeles skies the night the Party Animals were supposed to do a little dance, make a little love, and get down tonight; so naturally traffic delayed the start of the game for at least 45 minutes. It was a slow start for After Party without our fearless leaders Nate Dogg and Steph (Booty Connoisseur) Hicks. Fortunately, they had aptly selected four stand-in captains to take their place, and with that combined manpower, important foreplay by way of a warm up jog was initiated with both teams jogging as one with beautiful reciprocation.

After some dynamic stretching half-assedly lead by the “Steph Replacements” (ironically, since Steph chose us on booty merits alone), After Party circled up to meet the three new people who would be playing with us that evening. Two were glorious lady subs, Annie and Cortez (more on them and their magnificent presences later). The third was the long awaited, occasionally seen in the GroupMe, Adam “Bambi/Bama” Sutherland. Rocking neon tights, and an even more vibrant attitude, he acculturated well with the rest of the boys, especially with Kirkham, with whom he already shared a powerful bromance. With Tidal winning the most important of all the disc flips, we headed into battle sporting our fearsomely attractive jerseys.

And now, it is time to tell you about the actual game. If it could be summarized in one word: Bennett. The lay out D’s! The gorgeous zone handler swings! The deep cuts! Bennett was everywhere, and at the climax of the game, he literally left it all on the field when he limped off of the last point, bleeding and swollen. Matching his verve for ubiquitous game play were the aforementioned, spectacular lady subs. Cortez and Annie flowed with us smoothly as the melodious sound of Adele saying “hello”. Their wing work in zone was inspired. Stretching deep and contracting in with undulating fluidity which ultimately lead to just enough points to give After Party a meager lead in what was about to be one of our highest counting games of the season.

The soothing oscillations of our luscious ladies were precisely punctuated with sharp cuts and perfectly placed pauses in the popping positions by Bambi, Robin, Gryph, and Castro. All the while the disc swung smoothly from one side of the field to the other, expertly handled by our zone heroes, Armand, Tidal, Bennett, and KIRKHAM, exhausting the cup and further stretching the Animal Style zone. You may have noticed the subtle way Kirkham stood out in that list. It is meant to mirror the outstanding handlership he displayed throughout the game, lobbing hammers over the vast cup wall, threading polished flicks through narrow gaps with lubricated ease, and doing Nate proud as one of his captain stand-ins: leading by decisive disc placements.

Alternating scoring kept the game close, exciting, and long. Unfortunately, a tantric game like this is almost always correlated to eventual injury and fouls. Multiple collisions left Annie, Robin, and of course, Bennett with injuries that would still be visible the next day. That’s what you get for laying out….I mean…their aggressive defense awarded us multiple, much needed turns. Despite Animal Style sustaining some game halting injuries as well, everyone remained in such positive, sportsman-like spirits! Ultimate Frisbee is truly a wondrous bonding activity where long, hard points can be just as pleasurable when finished as those that are quick and dirty.

After an exhausting, yet…. almost sexually… satisfying battle, the final score rested at 15 to 13. The few of us still walking staggered to the after party where an orgy of other Frisbee enthusiasts was already raging. Certainly with an Animal Style pounding like that one, After Party will be sore tomorrow (today). Thank you to Animal Style for a spectacular game. If you had followed us to the hotel lobby, we certainly would have owed you breakfast.

And now I need to smoke a cigarette.  And take a cold shower.

  1. I believe you credited Animal Style with the win instead of After Party in the standings

  2. You’re totally right. Sorry about that. I just fixed it.
