Huck Cancer San Diego IISep 21st, 2016 | By AndyBandit | Category: Tournaments
Hear ye! Hear ye! All ye Kings and Queens, Knights and Nobles!
A tournament celebration is planned to benefit the noble causes of Early Recognition Is Critical (E.R.I.C.) and The Seany Foundation in the crowned city of Coronado on Saturday the twenty-ninth day of October in the year of two thousand sixteen. As a resident of the great realm of Ultimate players, thou hast been summoned to partake in the festivities!
Diego Ultimate Disc Experience (DUDE) welcomes all ages and skill levels. The royal festivities will begin with a youth clinic hosted by the San Diego Growlers. The second annual tournament will be split into two divisions: youth (18 and younger; half day) and adult (open to all ages; full day).
What: Mixed (coed) beach hat tournament (What is a hat tournament? At these tournaments players join individually rather than as a team. The tournament organizers form even teams by randomly taking the names of the participants from a hat. Players come to have fun, play ultimate, and make some new friends!)
When: Saturday, October 29, 2016 (Rough schedule: youth clinic starts at 8:30 am, first round of games starts at 9:30 am, tournament concludes at ~5 pm)
Who: You! Players of all ages and skill levels are invited to play!
Why: To play some ultimate on the gorgeous sands of Coronado Beach and raise money for two good causes
How: Registration opens on September 14th at 10:00 pm PDT (it closes on September 27th at 09:59 pm PDT, unless all spots are filled sooner). Register here.
Proceeds from this year’s tournament will benefit two non-profit cancer-focused organizations that aim to improve the lives of youth: E.R.I.C. and The Seany Foundation. E.R.I.C. hosts ultimate events across the country to promote recognizing cancer early. E.R.I.C. will be returning the funds back to the San Diego community by running ultimate clinics in local middle schools to teach kids about body and cancer symptom awareness, as well as the importance of healthy living. Based in San Diego, The Seany Foundation focuses heavily on bringing relief and happiness to kids struggling with cancer and to their families, largely in the form of camps.
Though only the minimum donation is required to play, we encourage all players to raise more than that amount. Registered players will be able to set up individual fundraising pages on Ultimate Central to share with friends and family (see instructions in an email you will receive after registering). All tax-deductible donations are processed by E.R.I.C., a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
We offer the following incentives as motivation:
Youth Division (18 and younger; half day)
- Entry level, “Squire” ($20): Includes team jersey and tournament food (lunch!)
- Level 1, “Gentry” ($40): 1st raffle ticket (additional entries will be earned in $20 donation increments)
- Level 2, “Vassal” ($60): Tournament disc
- Level 3, “Baron/Baroness” ($80): Tournament hat
- Level 4, “Royal” (Prince/Princess) ($150): Players who reach this level score 2 points on a catch in the endzone
Adult Division (all ages; full day)

Youth players are allowed one free baggage claim (if two players name each other as baggage, they will be placed on the same team). Baggage claims for the adult division will only be honored if both players list each other AND reach the “Knight” level before the close of registration.
