Santa Monica Laws, no alcohol, smoking or dogs allowed on the beach.
Keep the beach clean – we have a great beach, but let’s keep it that way – pick up your trash.
Lifeguards will be on duty nearby in case of emergency. Brand new bathrooms are open as well (don’t pee in the sand, sounds gross, but some people feel the need to do it – don’t).
We are under BULA modified rules.
Field is 50 yard +15 yard end zones x 30 yards wide
Brick is 15 yards
2 games every Sunday, to 13, win by 2, cap goes on at 12-12/Hard cap at 17 (time limit may be set as needed by the TDs discretion, but assume there isn’t one).
One timeout per half plus a floater. Timeouts may not be taken during the cap. See the rule about timeouts at the bottom of this page.
* Out of timeouts isn’t always a turnover. If a thrower attempts to call a time out with none remaining (or during a hard or soft cap), play stops. The marker shall add two (2) seconds to the stall count before restarting play with a check. If this results in a stall count of ten (10) or above, this is a stall-out, and a turnover. If there is no stall count, the defense may begin the stall count coming in ’stalling three.’
First game starts at 10AM.
No intentional foot blocks. Foot is considered to be below the knee. If you lay out and eat sand, that’s your fault, but we don’t want you to kick it into other peoples faces. Any attempted/successful foot block by the person marking the disc is a foul. Any attempted/successful foot blocks by the defense not marking the disc resulting in a turnover go back to the thrower. Completed passes may continue to be played. Accidental foot blocks are ok (if the disc hits you in the leg from behind/when you’re not looking/if you lay out head first and go too far). If you are running and the disc happens to hit you in the foot, that’s ok.
Callahan goals are good. No, they’re great.
The stall is to 10.
PICKS – we’re going to use 11th Edition UPA rule. Valid picks must be within 3 yards. 11th edition means, if the play isn’t effected, the disc stays, with 1 continuation from when it’s called. If I throw to Joe, and Jim calls a pick, but it didn’t effect the play, Joe gets to keep it. If Joe throws it before hearing the pick (if it’s caught or turned), but other people have stopped playing, it goes back to Joe. If the pick affected the play, it goes back to me.
There are no 2-pointers in the Open division.
In an effort to keep things moving, we ask that you only take 10 to 15 minutes between games. We realize some games may end before others, so it’s 10 to 15 minutes after the second team finishes.
Lag or flip for pull.
Pulls do NOT need to be inverted. If a pull lands inbounds, it’s played where it lands.
There is no centering rule. Discs that are pulled out of bounds, may be played from the sideline closest to where it went out or from the receiving team’s brick mark.
The playing field proper is the playing field excluding the end zones. The goal lines are part of the proper (not a goal). The perimeter lines (sideline and end lines) are out of bounds. A catch made straddling the line is considered out.
Games have been and may be cancelled due to high winds or hazardous air quality. This is usually a day of decision. We will make every effort to play, including in the rain.
In the event that the TD is not at the fields, an interim TD may be assigned and will have the final say in any and all matters. Please respect their decisions.
These rules may be modified by the TDs as seen necessary.
