Hi LAOUT Community,
We are excited to begin the process of electing new board members!
Why join the LAOUT Board?
LA’s ultimate community has been built by folks who take on the responsibility of managing the behind-the-scenes details and planning. Being on the board is an opportunity to help lead the community, improve our programming, shape our culture, and uphold our commitment to racial and gender equity. It’s an opportunity to examine our plans, actions, and decisions. Additionally, committing your effort to something loved can bring a lot of value and satisfaction both on and off the field.
What is the time commitment roughly?
The LAOUT board meets once a month for 2 hours. Pre-COVID this was in person, but most meetings since 2020 have been via Zoom. Non-meeting time varies depending on the individual’s role. New board members should expect to give approximately 3-4 hours per week, though it will fluctuate higher and lower throughout the year. Not having internet access would not be a barrier to becoming a Board member.
Is anyone staying on the board?
Each Board member serves a two-year term, and most of our members are about a year and a half into their term, with their term ending October 2022 – Alison Yoho, Don Macatangay, Chelsea Baldemor, Greta Becker, Linda Hamon, Elliott Lamborn. If any board members wish to stay on after 2022, they will need to run for election again.
What board positions need to be filled?
The current board consists of 5 core positions: Chair, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. We’re trending toward a structure that empowers committees, and all board members will be allowed input to figure out if we want to update this structure. The key areas of focus that we need support are: League Programming, Equity, Fields, Communications, and Finance.
What are the first / next steps?
Nominate yourself and/or someone who you think would be a good fit!
Start game planning a personal statement – what this includes, and what you feel is important to communicate, is up to you. After the nominations are collected, the personal statements will be shared with the community before voting begins.
The current board will facilitate the voting process.
Please feel free to reach out to any of the current board members individually with any questions, or email all of us at email@example.com.
