After a two year hiatus, everyone’s favorite LAOUT league is back for a new season! The theme: Boy Bands for Mixed, Girl Bands for Mens. It’s…. perfect! I have a lot of recaps to post tonight so without further ado, our very first Summer League 2022 recap from Captain Judge of One Direction facing off against Jackson 5. (I think the group has “The” at the start of the name but I’m just going off what’s in ultimate central.) This is going to be an exciting season! One Direction started off with some wipeboard talk about ho-stack and forces. 4 ladies and 6 dudes with Keith Gibson on the way to be a sub. Cool, cool… cool cool cool. We started on O and went up 1-0. Jackson 5 had some other plans so we ended up 1-3. Tied it back up at 3-3. Traded a few more points, called a time out, had some more wipeboard talk and live demos, made up some cheers, then took half 8-7. Couple of noteworthy highlights- Mumbles had our first layout score of the league! Zach (played less than a year and only at pickup) scored a goal! Riley skied several people in the end zone. Jake has some bomb hucks. An owl flew over the field during the second half and everyone stopped to watch. Overall, a very tiring and hard fought game for both sides. One Direction 15 – Jackson 5 11. Jackson 5 did beat us at the bar though. Woohoo! I mean, this recap could use some GIFs, but I’ll take it! Great to see teams working together and spreading the fun around so everyone has a moment to shine. But really, I’m most interested in the owl spotting. We had lots of owls around growing up, and I have plenty of owl anecdotes, but I’ll leave you with this one: One evening around dusk, my dad was walking down our driveway and got swooped by an owl that lightly scratched top of his head. Just a friendly hello and/or maybe a subtle threat? Whoooo can say? hehehe ohh I crack myself up. It’s been a long week, y’all. Anyway, back to frisbee. One Direction pulls out the first win of the recaps and will face off against Menudo next Friday evening. (the) Jackson 5 have their next game on Wednesday against Backstreet Boys. Ahhh I love this theme!
