WHAT:
After two hatless years, we are back with LAOUT’s 26th Annual St. Pat’s Hat Tournament!  The St. Pat’s Hat tradition was started by Mo in 1995. St. Pat’s is a two-day coed hat tournament (each player signs up as an individual and is assigned to a team for the weekend). You must pre-register, pre-pay, and bring your Irish cheer in order to play.
WHY:
To have fun playing Ultimate with old and new friends; and to indulge in all things Irish and millinery (hats off if you know this word). And to celebrate a LAOUT institution older than even Summer League!
WHEN:
Saturday & Sunday March 19th & 20th, 2022. Rough schedule:
  • Registration from 8:30-9:00am on Saturday
  • Games start at 9:30am and run until 4:30pm on Saturday
  • Shower up – or simply change into your shower cap – and head to the pub to drink away your turnovers; nobody will know on Sunday, lest you keep the shower cap on
  • Games are expected to start at 10:00am on Sunday and usually end around 3:30pm
WHERE:
Hjelte Sports Center at 16200 Burbank Blvd, Encino, CA 91436
HOW MUCH?
Registration by March 15th – $35
Late registration by March 18th – $40 (and last day to utilize membership discounts)
Day of registration – $50 (no membership discounts apply)
Save 10% if you sign up for A-List membership! Sign up for a Star Membership and all of your LAOUT leagues & tournaments (except charity events) are FREE! There will be no discounts for SPH on-site registrations.
GENDER FORMAT:
Coed teams. We’ll do whatever gender format we can make, but we’re hoping our community can get us to a solid 4:3/3:4 ratio. We believe in you!
MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT:
Players must be 18 years or older to play or contact us to request an exception.

Most importantly, don’t forget your creative hats!!! Make sure to bring your most creative hats!!! You are welcome to wear a simple baseball cap but try to step up your game!

RULES:
USAU 2021-2022 Rules are in effect, with the following additions/modifications:
  1. Foot-blocks are totally legal, except when marking Andy Bandit.
  2. Games to 13. Mirror half at 7. Win by 2.  Cap at 15.
  3. Soft Cap | Two horns | Finish current point then play to the highest score +1.
  4. Hard cap | One long horn five minutes later | Finish current point, only continue playing if the score is tied.
  5. One timeout per half plus one floater, caps don’t affect timeouts. Timeouts are 90 seconds long.
  6. You may substitute up to two players during a time-out.
  7. SPECIAL HAT RULE: You are not an offensive player without a hat on your head. If your hat falls off, you are now just an inbounds object. You can still get a D without your hat on, but make sure not to catch your Ds unless your hat is on your head, or else it’s an instant turnover.
EXTRAS:
Field water (bring your own bottles) and snacks will be provided on Saturday & Sunday.
Unfortunately, because registration for this tournament is opening so late this year, we will not be providing jerseys or discs. We will be assigning teams and emailing you your team colors by Friday evening on 3/18 (if you sign up day of then you’ll want to bring multiple shirts of various colors). More info to come soon!
REFUND POLICY:
Full refund will be given to anyone who cancels their registration on or prior to March 15, 2022; no refund will be given after that.

NEW TO ULTIMATE?
Please use the coupon code STRONGWOMEN or STRONGMAN before you checkout for a special discount on your first event and your Basic or A-list Membership; if you decide you’d like to purchase an upgraded membership down the line, just let us know and we’ll help you out.
