Monday night, Dumbledore’s Army faced off against Scoober Divers, and we have another Groupme-cap from DA filled with even more punny names. It makes me so happy.
Here’s the recap from Nearly Headless Nate:
A Brief Note before the Groupme-cap
Scoober Divers were a ton of fun to play against (there is much love for Cogswell in this land), and even more fun to drink with! Joxers was empty except for us and the few Divers who boldly joined our squad in the couches in the corner. The whole bar was lightly re-modeled recently? There was a new bartender whom none of us had ever seen before. He was very friendly….maybe too friendly…. a little off-putting… haha I’m curious if anyone else had thoughts.
Fun Facts about our new Scoober friends
> We met Maria Duke of Tarth recap fame. It lived up to the hype.
> Claire laughs a lot and does not like sharing
> Erick Lankey and I are secret friends and is not in fact Lankey in stature, but regularly portioned
> Shard did not party enough in college, but now with this sweet job she can party… maybe….
> Erica is secretly probably a better potter fan than all of us and snorts when she laughs (charming)
Now the Groupmecap gets a little weird today… and for those curious our new friend Avalon joined DA this week. We get her boyfriend James next week! He’s not ready. And that Fresh Avacado vine is a classic look it up. Without further adieu.
In case you’re not familiar with the Fresh Avocado vine, you can check it out here.
And I’m happy to hear that everyone had fun and spirits were high. And nobody should be surprised that Maria Duke lived up to her Tarth recap reputation.
UPDATE: Speaking of the famous Maria, here’s here recap from the Scoober side
Well kids! Another season, another league! Some of you may know me from my excellent recaps [here’s one, and here’s another one] as a member of the Summer League Almost-Champions House Tarth. This season, Eric Lankey and I are back and better than ever on a dynamite team called Scoober Divers. I could not be more thrilled about this league or my team as there have been 0 Game of Throne references so far this season. However, this week’s team brought me a new fandom with its own challenges: Dumbledore’s Army.
Now, for those of you who don’t know – Dumbledore’s Army is a reference to the acclaimed book/movie series, Harry Potter. In this wacky series, an evil man wizard tries to kill an innocent baby boy wizard and chaos/shenanigans ensue. Dumbledore’s Army is the good guy group that the aforementioned baby boy wizard forms with his good friends/fellow magic students to defeat the evil man wizard once and for all. Scoober Divers is a sophisticated amalgamation of this throw and this. Are we all on the same page? Good. Onto the recap!
Both DA and SD showed up with many legs and half as many hearts. The game got off to a strong start when SD cheered “Go Claire!” and DA cheered something like “Magic friends!” Then, each team put 6 players on the line. After many close fought, intense, yet spirited, points – DA took half. Some highlights from the first half: DA threw a zone! SD adjusted! There were a lot of subs on each team!
After a close-fought, intense, yet spirited, half, 12 players once again took the field. Due to my scrappy underdog mentality which has been cultivated by being a lifelong DC sports fan (looking at you Dan Schneider you slimy SOB!) I tend to not keep track of the score too closely. I do remember that there were some turnovers due to it being a very windy night, but mostly there were just a lot of solid offense and also defense.
DA ended the night triumphant, but not to be outdone, SD beat them to the cheer at the end of the game. We had a bit of an advantage since one of our members, Erica, has won multiple Harry Potter competitions. Nixing any horocrux references as too dark, we instead yelled something about Mischief being Managed. Then DA (despite having no Scuba OR Scoober experts on their team) did an excellent cheer where one of them pretended to be swimming through the air while some of their teammates carried them and the rest of the team pretended to be water/bubbles. It was a great bit.
I was going to do a full bar recap but 6 paragraphs is a big enough ask from you, Dear Reader. Also, there’s a nice symmetry there because there are 6 Harry Potter books. Highlights of the bar were 1) everyone shared their fries 2) we did names 3) Lankey continued his perfect attendance streak 3) S.H.A.R.D. (of SD fame) had to explain her dumb nickname again and got an appropriate level of shit for it. I’d like to thank you all for bearing with me. I’m used to leaning heavily on David Reed’s “Reedcaps” for actual frisbee-playing content. It’s big shoes to fill and I will make sure to include some of that next week. Have a great rest of the week everybody! Expelliarmus!
Maria, Maria, Maria. How do we solve a problem like Maria. I wanted to be in your corner, but you really dropped the ball here. There are SEVEN Harry Potter books in the series.
But, otherwise, good job 🙂
