Welcome back to one of LAOUT’s newest leagues: The Crosstown Classic! The Core+Draft format will let you play with your friends and meet new people — opt to captain your own team with a hand-selected core or enter the draft as a free agent, to be selected by a core in a structure that promotes parity and increased access to teams. The league will be split into East and West divisions with a League final pitting the best of the East against the best of the West. Choose your side and have fun!
Details:
Format: 6v6, Grass/turf fields, Core+Draft teams. 4 teams per division. Games will be 90 minutes
Finals: Division Finals will be the last week of the regular season with the League Finals on 12/12
Size: Due to field space, the league will be limited. Those that do not get drafted to a team will be entitled to a full refund
IMPORTANT DATES:
- Sunday, September 1st – Registration opens, and captain recruitment starts.
- Sunday October 9th – Deadline for free agent registration. Cores created and verified
- Friday October 9th – Draft, team notifications sent out to players
- Monday October 12th – League start
- Monday December 12th – Final Week of League (Championship)
WHEN and WHERE:
East-side: Mondays 8-10pm at Pasadena Robinson Park
West-side: Mondays 7:30-9:30pm at West Adams High School
What is a Core+Draft League?
This format is designed to merge the best parts of Bring-You-Own-Team and Direct Draft formats. The goals of the Core+Draft format are to increase parity between teams as well as to make it easier for those new to town or without a yearly Bring-Your-Own-Team team to participate in the league. Captains choose players to invite to a team core according to specific rules to limit overpowered cores, similar to the current Bring-Your-Own-Team format. Free Agents (those not in cores) are then drafted by teams to fill out the rest of the roster. The draft process also has rules in place to balance teams based on the strength of their cores

Financial Aid:
This is the most programming that LAOUT has ever offered in one season. We are still figuring out pricing models to allow people to participate in as much Ultimate as they desire while still covering costs. If you cannot afford to participate in everything you want to, please reach out. We will make sure you can play as much ultimate as you desire and it will inform us on how to refine the pricing models in the future.
LAOUT is a non-profit dedicated to making Ultimate available to everyone in the community regardless of financial status. Financial aid can be requested by anyone who believes they need it. This includes people who can afford to pay partial fees. Please reach out to anthony.paoli@laout.org and let me know what, if anything, you can afford to pay. The process is entirely private.
